Frequently Asked Questions
SiOban® is a broad spectrum lasting disinfectant based on a nanotechnology sol gel process.
SiOban consists of Benzalkonium Chloride, Sodium Pyrithion, Poly-condensates, fragrances and purified water. It is free from Aldehydes and Phenols.
It is available in two variants these being Alcohol and Water based SiOban. The Alcohol based variant is most suited for application to stainless steel and polished plastic surfaces. The water-based variant can be used on all surfaces.
SiOban® forms a nonao think layer on the surface containing nano sponges which contain the active ingredients. Once pathogens land on the coted surface the active ingredients are released thereby destroying the pathogens. (It is known as an eluting process)
Once applied SiOban® also make the surface up to 50% easier to clean. This easy lean effect was tested and confirmed by the Fresenius Institut GmbH, Taunsstein.
One nanometre is one billionth of a meter. By comparison a nono-particle is in the same relationship to a football as a football is to the earth. The coating is approximately 500 times thinner than a human hair.
SiOban® lasts for up to 10 days depending upon the amount of abrasion that a surface is exposed to. With generic disinfectants the effect lasts from a few seconds, up to a maximum of approximately 20 minutes; following which the surface can be re-contaminated.
SiOban® bridges this disinfection gap. Over a 10 day period you would typically need 720+ applications of generic disinfectant, compared to a single application of SiOban.
We believe that a log result is the most accurate of a disinfectant’s efficacy. Simply speaking a laboratory takes two carrier surfaces and places the same number of microbes on both surfaces. One of the surfaces is treated with the disinfectant for a pre designated amount of time, then the disinfectant is neutralized on the treated surface and the same neutralizing gent is also used to treat the surface that was not treated with eh disinfectant.
The numbers of microbes on the tow surfaces is then counted and the difference between the two surfaces gives us a log result. I am not sure that this is clear.

The unique formula in SiOban®protects surfaces, making them easier to clean. It is specially designed to release a new layer of protection each time the surface is touched, giving you the ability to attack pathogens over and over providing lasting disinfection.
SiOban® residual antimicrobial effect creates a smooth, clear coating, making regular cleaning easier. As each layer wears off with normal use, new molecules of disinfectant are released to provide additional protection.
Using a highly innovative and unique ‘controlled release’ mechanism, SiOban™ closes the hygiene gap, protecting the treated surface from microbial growth and virtually eliminating cross contamination between disinfection periods.
